언약 계시의 점진적 확대Ⅰ

(1) 구약에 나타난 언약들
인류의 시조 아담이 하나님의 말씀(창 2:17)을 어기고 선악을 알게 하는 나무의 실과를 먹음으로 말미암아 하나님과 인류 사이에는 죄로 인한 단절이 일어났습니다. 이렇게 깨어진 관계를 회복하시기 위하여 하나님께서는 선민 이스라엘을 택하시고, 그들과 언약을 맺으시며, 점진적으로 그 언약을 성취하심으로써 구원 역사의 완성을 향해 달려오셨습니다. 

언약에 대한 최초의 계시는 창세기 3:15에 나타난 “여자의 후손”입니다. 이것은 타락한 인간을 구원하시겠다는 하나님의 의도가 분명히 나타난, 최초의 언약입니다. 구속사가 진행됨에 따라 점차적으로 분명하게 계시되는 언약들은 모두 이 언약에 근거하고 있습니다. 그 이후에 하나님의 언약은 구약의 역사 속에서 시대마다 다른 모습으로 발전하였습니다. 노아와의 언약(창 9장), 아브라함과의 언약(창 15, 17장), 모세와의 언약(출 19, 24장), 다윗과의 언약(삼하 7장, 대상 17장, 왕상 8:25, 시 132:11), 예레미야를 통한 새 언약(렘 31:31-34), 에스겔과 맺은 영원한 언약(겔 16:60-63) 등이 바로 그것입니다. 이러한 여러 언약들 중에 아브라함과 맺으신 언약을 중심으로, 특히 창세기 15장의 횃불 언약에 나타난 구속사적 경륜을 살펴보도록 하겠습니다.

(2) 아브라함과의 언약
하나님께서는 아브라함과 일곱 번에 걸쳐서 언약을 체결하셨습니다.
첫째, 창세기 12:1-3에서 아브라함을 부르시고 첫 약속을 하셨습니다.
둘째, 창세기 12:7에서 최초로 가나안 땅을 약속하셨습니다.
셋째, 창세기 13:15-18에서 다시 가나안 땅을 약속하시고 자손에 대한 약속을 하셨습니다.
넷째, 창세기 15장에서 ‘횃불 언약’을 통해 자손과 가나안 땅에 대한 약속을 재확증하셨습니다.
다섯째, 창세기 17:9-14에서 ‘할례 언약’을 체결하셨습니다.
여섯째, 창세기 18:10에서 이삭 탄생에 대한 재약속을 하셨습니다.
마지막으로, 창세기 22:15-18에서 이삭을 제물로 드린 이후에 지금까지의 언약들에 대하여 최종 확증을 하셨습니다.

아브라함과 맺으신 이러한 언약들은 이후에 전개되는 구속사의 중심 내용이 되었습니다. 이스라엘 백성은 애굽의 노예 상태에서 구원받고 가나안 땅을 정복하며 강력한 다윗 왕권을 수립해 나가는 역사 속에서, 아브라함에게 맹세하신 ‘언약’에 근거하여 하나님의 긍휼을 호소했고(출 32:13, 신 9:27, 왕상 18:36, 대상 29:18), 하나님께서는 아브라함과의 ‘언약’을 기억하시므로 그들을 도우셨습니다(출 2:24, 6:5, 레 26:42, 45, 신 9:5, 대상 16:15-18, 왕하 13:23, 눅 1:72-73).

시편 105:7-10 “그는 여호와 우리 하나님이시라 그의 판단이 온 땅에 있도다 8그는 그 언약 곧 천대에 명하신 말씀을 영원히 기억하셨으니 9이것은 아브라함에게 하신 언약이며 이삭에게 하신 맹세며 10야곱에게 세우신 율례 곧 이스라엘에게 하신 영영한 언약이라”

The Gradual Expansion of Covenantal Revelations

(1) Covenants is the old Testament

The relationship between God and mankind was severed when Adam, the forefather of humanity, disobeyed the Word of God (Gen 2:17) and ate of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. To restore this broken relationship, God elected Israel as His chosen people and made a covenant with them. Since then, God has been progressing toward the completion of the history of salvation by gradually fulfilling that covenant. Therefore, many covenants that appear in the Old Testament are the gradual expansion of revelations for the salvation of sinful mankind.

The very first revelation regarding the covenant is the "seed of the woman" promised in Genesis 3:15. This was the first covenant that vividly conveyed God's will to save fallen mankind. All covenants, which are to be revealed gradually and vividly as the history of redemption progresses, stem from this covenant. God's covenants were gradually developed into different forms in each time period throughout the history of the Old Testament. Such varying forms include the covenant with Noah (Gen 9), the covenant with Abraham (Gen 15;17), the covenant with Moses (Exod 19;24), the covenant with David (2 Sam 7; 1 Chr 17; 1 Kgs 8:25; Ps 132:11), the new covenant through Jeremiah (Jer 31:31-34), and the everlasting covenant with Ezekiel (Ezek 16:60-63).

(2) The covenant with Abraham

God established a covenant with Abraham on seven occasions:

The covenants that God made with Abraham became the focal point of the history of redemption that has progressed since then. Throughout the course of history, when the Israelites were rescued from their bondage in Egypt, when they conquered the land of Canaan, and at the establishment of the powerful dominion of David, the people of God cried out for God's mercy by relying on the "covenant" which God had promised Abraham (Exod 32:13; Deut 9:27; 1 Kgs 18:36; 1 Chr 29:18). In return, God remembered the "covenant" with Abraham and helped them (Exod 2:24; 6:5; Lev 26:42, 45; Deut 9:5; 1 Chr 16:15-18; 2 Kgs 13:23; Luke 1:72-73).

Psalm 105:7-10 He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth. 8 He has remembered His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations, 9 the covenant which He made with Abraham, and His oath to Isaac. 10 Then He confirmed it to Jacob for a stature, the Israel as an everlasting covenant.
