(3) 애굽으로 이주하는 야곱의 70가족(창 46:8-27)

애굽에 이주한 자는 야곱, 요셉, 므낫세, 에브라임을 제외하면 66명, 포함하면 70명입니다(46:26-27).

그런데 이 명단을 자세히 보면, 실제로 애굽에 들어간 자들뿐만 아니라 애굽에 들어가서 태어난 자손까지도 포함되어 있습니다. 애굽으로 이주할 당시에 베냐민의 나이는 24세 정도입니다. 그런데 창세기 46:21에서는 애굽으로 이주하는 베냐민의 아들들이 무려 열 명(벨라, 베겔, 아스벨, 게라, 나아만, 에히, 로스, 뭅빔, 훕빔, 아릇)이나 등장하고 있습니다. 특히 아릇과 나아만은 민수기 26:40에서는 벨라의 아들 즉 베냐민의 손자로 기록되어 있습니다.

앞으로 태어날 자손들까지 포함된 ‘70’가족의 명단은 하나님께서 어떤 뜻을 가지고 기록하신 것입니다. 성경에서 ‘7’은 ‘완성, 종결’ 등을 나타내는 완전한 성수(聖數)이며, ‘10’은 기본수의 종결과 만수(滿數)로, 이 두 수(數)를 곱한 ‘70’은 흠잡을 데 없는 ‘완전성’과 ‘충만성’을 상징합니다. 그러므로 이것은 야곱의 가족이 한 사람도 빠짐없이 하나님의 완전한 섭리와 인도 하에 애굽으로 이주했음을 보여 주며, 앞으로의 충만한 번영과 온전한 구원을 보여 주는 것입니다.

야곱의 가족 70명이 애굽에 내려감으로, 하나님께서 아브라함에게 약속하셨던 횃불 언약 가운데 “네 자손이 이방의 객이 되어”(창 15:13)라고 예언하신 말씀이 성취되기 시작하였습니다. 더 나아가 이스라엘 민족 공동체가 장차 거대한 나라를 이루고 출애굽이라는 거사를 일으켜, 다시 가나안으로 돌아온다는 언약 성취의 기초가 되는 순간이기도 합니다. 애굽은 야곱의 일생 노정 17장소 가운데 열여섯 번째입니다.

하나님께서는 이스라엘이 편안하게 살면서 거대 민족을 형성하는 방법을 허락지 않으시고, 애굽이라는 고난의 풀무(신 4:20, 왕상 8:51, 렘 11:4) 속에 넣으시고 거기서 연단을 받아 큰 민족을 이루도록 섭리하셨습니다. 오늘날 우리도 하나님의 나라에 들어가기 위해서는 반드시 ‘고난의 애굽’을 통과해야 할 것입니다(행 14:22, 롬 8:17, 벧전 4:12-16).

(3) Seventy members of Jacob's family move to Egypt (Gen 46:8-27)

The number of people who entered Egypt was 70 if we count Jacob, Joseph, Manasseh, and Ephraim, but 66 if we exclude them (Gen 46:26-27). Careful examination of the list of people who entered Egypt shows that the list includes not only people who entered Egypt, but also people who were later born in Egypt. Benjamin was about 24 years old during the move, but Genesis 46:21 lists ten of Benjamin's sons as having moved to Egypt; Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. In addition, Numbers 26:40 records Ard and Naaman as sons of Bela, indicating that they sere Benjamin's grandchildren.

God recorded this list of 70 that included descendants not yet born for a specific reason. In the Bible, the number seven is the number of perfection and completion, while the number ten signifies the end of the basic counting numbers and the fullness of the numbers. Thus, 70, the multiplication of seven and ten, represents complete perfection and fullness. This demonstrates that all of Jacob's family, without exception, moved to Egypt according to God's providence and symbolizes the fullness of their prosperity and their complete salvation.
